This is the end of the 2024 season. I was neglectful in keeping up with his blog this year. I will try harder next season.
We had a better honey yield this season compared to last year. We harvested approximately 100 lbs of honey from 3 hives. The honey was our typical golden yellow color and the taste was fantastic. During the extraction process we were accompanied by black hornets this year along with the usual yellow jackets and the odd Apis mellifera. But for the first time it was the hornets that dominated the scene while we extracted our liquid gold.
We have had a fantastic fall. The temperatures have been more than mild for most of September and October. With that said we have prepared our hives for the winter season. We are going into winter with 3 strong hives. Hopefully next spring we will have 3 hives to begin the 2025 season.
